The fact that the sessions are "free of charge", the skill level is very basic (people feel comfortable "trying"), and there is no perceived obligations in regards to their commitment to that club - is all part of the 'Life. Be in it' strategy to fulfil its aims of active participation. This unpressured approach quite often entices people to freely join their new selected activity.
Most organisations see the Come 'n Try program as an effective way of "building public awareness" about their activity. Others see it as a way of attracting new members. In other States where this program is run, all of the groups were positive about working with 'Life. Be in it' to achieve excellent outcomes.
We at ‘Life. Be in it’ would like to host 1 Come ‘n Try session each fortnight and would like to seek your clubs involvement.
We have also been working closely with the print and electronic media as further avenues to promote your activity.
We will also work closely with you to enable your club to get the most out of the day.
If your club would like to get involved please contact us with your details completed and an indication of what month would be preferred to host a Come n’ Try session.
This is a free service ‘Life. Be in it’ is providing to your club. Our goal is to endeavour to make your club a vibrant and progressive place where new members are welcomed and encouraged. The Come ‘n Try program enables you to do this. Hurry, places will book out quickly.
The program aims to:
· encourage all individuals including those people with a disability to undertake regular recreational or sporting activity by providing opportunities to sample the activity in an informal & friendly atmosphere;
· provide recreational and sporting organisations with a further opportunity to broaden their membership support base, thus increasing the viability of these organisations in some cases or giving clubs a broader generation of players;
· enhance/modify the public image of specific recreational activities. e.g. demonstrate that croquet is not only played by older people but is available for all ages and abilities;
· promote health and fitness and the benefits of participation in all forms of recreation including people with a disability and influence others such as parents of children and adolescents with a disability;
· co-ordinate, as part of the regular Come 'n Try program, a range of opportunities for people with a disability to "have a go" at a recreational activity of their choice;
· support and refer participants to appropriate groups and organisations who provide the recreational activity which includes the needs and interests of people of all abilities;
